THE BIG STORMS RARELY ADD SHOWERS WITHOUT RAIN
Part 3 – Sin (Romans 7:18-23)
Premise: SIN is being connected with something that displeases God.
Definitions: John Calvin/Sin = “hamartia” = missing the mark…
John Wesley/Sin = a willful transgression of a known law of God…
SIN IS A DISEASE THAT AFFECTS EVERYONE.
- We wish it wasn’t so, but it is.
- Isaiah 64:6
- Romans 3:23
- I John 1:8
- We need to all confess to the problem. Our world has a sin addiction.
SIN HAS AN ALLURING ATTRACTION.
- If sin weren’t fun, if it didn’t excite us and give us an adrenalin rush, we wouldn’t do it.
- It leads us to do things that we wouldn’t do if we thought about it more in advance.
SIN DESTROYS EVERYTHING THAT IT TOUCHES.
- Romans 6:23
- Sin kills family unity: Family fights, divorce, abuse, hatred where there should be love.
- Sin kills world peace: Wars don’t spring up on their own.
- Sin kills our personal state of tranquility.
SIN HAS AN ANTIDOTE—AND HIS NAME IS JESUS
- Paul knew about this antidote, so he wrote about it.
- Romans 6:23
- Romans 7:24-25
- Romans 8:1-2
Conclusion: Sin began with man’s first rebellion against God, and it continues to this very day. The disease of sin needs to be dealt with, or it will destroy us.
