THE BIG STORMS RARELY ADD SHOWERS WITHOUT RAIN

Part 5 - “ATONEMENT” (I John 2:2, 4:7-10)

Atoning Sacrifice = God’s love

IT IS NOT GOD’S WILL FOR US TO LIVE IN SIN.
  1. He cares about every person ever born.
  2. He loves without limitations.
  3. But we have a sin problem.

JESUS TOOK THE ROLE OF THE SIN OFFERING ON OUR BEHALF.
  1. He became the Old Testament ritual sacrifice.
  2. He became the “mercy seat.”

JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS SO THAT ALL PEOPLE COULD BE BOUGHT BACK FROM SIN’S SLAVERY.
  1. The Father sent Jesus—a part of the divine Godhead—to atone for our sins.
  2. The Father wants to “rescue us from the present evil age” (Galatians 1:4).

JESUS DIDN’T GO TO THE CROSS BECAUSE OF GOD’S WRATH, BUT BECAUSE OF GOD’S LOVE.
  1. God knew we needed a Savior.
  2. Jesus became a man so that we would have an example to follow.
Q—Why did there have to be an atoning sacrifice for our sins?

A—Because we didn’t know God or that His plan was for us.
