MARRIAGE

Ephesians 5:22-23

“Wives, be subject to your own husband, as to the Lord. ……….. Husbands love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” (Full reading Ephesians 5:22-31)

The first thing that pops out to me in these verses is that we need a love for God. Joining in marriage is not just a man and woman; it is also their love for God. Many people seem to forget that, but these verses cannot be carried out properly if God is left out of the formula.

The first thing that pops out to me in these verses is that we need a love for God. Joining in marriage is not just a man and woman; it is also their love for God. Many people seem to forget that, but these verses cannot be carried out properly if God is left out of the formula.

Second: God made man the head of the relationship. That does not mean that the wife just becomes a servant, but she honors him and respects his leadership. She also is to help him along the way.
Finally: Man is to treat her like God treats the church — To respect, honor and cherish her.

When trouble comes, sometimes we forget to allow God to lead as we should. We get angry and say and do things that we should not. This causes a distance to grow between us and our spouse instead of love. When that happens we might need to just go for a ride or to a separate room to gather ourselves. By that I mean — Pray, talk to God, and allow Him to help you get things back into a right perspective. Ask Him to help your love to grow, not the disagreement, and then talk it over with your spouse; closing in a time of prayer.

The closer you both stay to God, the closer you will stay to each other. Keep communication clear, and when there is a disagreement talk about it. Don’t let it steam. Keep good manners. Please and thank you are a great way of showing respect. Keep in mind this is the person God gave you. Honor God by honoring each other. One is not a slave to the other — we are partners.

An extremely important thing is to pray for your spouse. We don’t always know what is totally going on inside, but God does and lifting them up in prayer helps lighten their burden. It shows our love for them.

May we all pray for each other and keep God in the center of our relationship.
