PRAYER FOCUS
Generosity
Luke 6:30-36, 38
Generosity is giving above and beyond what is expected.
I think sometimes we forget that everything given to us is a gift from God. We deceive ourselves into thinking what we have is actually ours or that we actually deserve it. Generosity is not easy. Jesus asks us to do hard things:
- Give to everyone, especially your enemies
- Love everyone, especially your enemies
- Do good to others, especially your enemies
Does this sound familiar?
It sounds like what Jesus did by becoming like us and dying.
Jesus gave us ALL of Him.
ALL His love.
ALL His time.
Imagine Him only giving 80%. What about 30%? Would that have been enough to save us? No! He asks us to follow the example of His life. He was ALL or nothing.
"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
What you give out, will be given back to you. If you only give God 10% of your time, 10% of your love, 10% of your effort; what do you expect to get in return?
Here's the good news. We give God less than 100% and He still gives us His all. That's how good He is! God wants our ALL and wants us to give our ALL because it's a gift we don't deserve but He deserves it.
What's even more beautiful is He can take our generosity and turn it into something that glorifies Him even more and save lives.
Reflection:
In what part of your life could you be more generous (time, money, effort, kindness)? How so?
- Generosity of people’s time, talent, & treasure
- For God to sustain the ministry of DaySpring through people’s financial generosity
- For people to become more willing to share what God has given them
