Fresh Vision & Direction from God for DaySpring

Proverbs 29:18

“Without revelation people run wild,
but one who follows divine instruction will be happy.”

That word “happy” is the same Hebrew word used in Psalm 1 (How happy is the one…) and many other places in Scripture. However, the depth of it’s meaning goes far beyond simply having a “good feeling.” It is meant to speak of being blessed or having a deep sense of satisfaction. The question then becomes: What does it mean to be blessed or satisfied AND how can I get this blessedness and satisfaction?

There are many different instances in which we might say that we are satisfied: eating a big, juicy ribeye, your team winning a championship, or waking up after a great night of sleep. The problem is that these are all fleeting feelings/moments. You will get hungry again, your team won’t win a championship every year, and you’re liable to not sleep at all the very next night after that good sleep. So what does Scripture mean? Because if God’s idea of satisfaction is the same as those experiences, I’m not sure it’s something we want. Thankfully its drastically different. Being happy/blessed/satisfied, according to Scripture, is thankfully something that goes beyond the things I experience. In fact, it means that even if my steak is overcooked, my team is terrible, and I haven’t slept a wink all week; I can still be satisfied. That’s because the satisfaction that Scripture speaks of isn’t a feeling based on circumstances, but rather, it is an inner reality that defies circumstances. It can only be found in my obedient surrender to the will of the One who knows me best and knows what’s best for me. That brings us to question two: How can I get this happiness/blessedness/satisfaction?’

The answer is explicitly stated in our scripture — we must follow God’s divine instruction. If we go our own way rather than His, the first part of the verse tells us that we will be out of control. Other translations help to give a wholistic understanding by saying it in differing ways. They say that people will “cast off restrant”, “be discouraged,” and even that “the people perish” or die. There’s one problem: I have to know His divine instructions, otherwise I cannot follow them; and therefore cannot be happy, blessed, and satisfied. We desperately need “divine guidance” — “prophetic vision” — “revelation”, depending on which translation you read that verse in.

This applies to each and every person. Individually, we need His vision in order to know His plan so that we can be satisfied in Him, which far supersedes our circumstances. That said, we as a Body of believers at DaySpring collectively also need fresh vision/direction/revelation from God so that we can move in the direction He would have us to go. In order for our common saying to actually become a reality (the best days are yet to come), we at DaySpring, specifically the leadership, desperately need fresh vision.

This is a new season. What worked before may not work now. How we did things before may need to be tweaked, changed, or thrown out altogether. But we MUST have fresh guidance from the LORD in order to do it His way. Otherwise DaySpring will become a place of discouragement and will eventually perish, just like the verse says.

We need to hear from Him. We need to receive His vision. Then we must, as a church body, collectively follow that “divine instruction.” This is the only way DaySpring will be blessed long into the future. It is the only way you and I, individually, will be blessed long into our future. Thankfully this isn’t a pipe dream. This blessed future that Proverbs speaks of is well within our grasp, both individually and as a church body.

This can be accomplished in two very simple ways: PRAYER (you know, that thing we’re doing for 21 days) and studying His Word. Everything we need is right there.

He is speaking. May we have ears to hear, eyes to see, a heart ready to receive, and hands and feet ready to move where he leads.
