PRAYER FOCUS
Young Adults (18-40)
1 Timothy 4:12
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
God loves to use young people.
We’ve seen God use young people over and over again in the Bible— David, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Timothy, Ruth, Esther, Mary(Jesus’s mother), etc.
In the verse above, it’s easy to highlight what Timothy is being told to do instead of who is telling him do it. Timothy is being guided by Paul. Timothy was a young man who began traveling with Paul during Paul’s second missionary journey. He grew in spiritual maturity through Paul’s willingness to take him under his wing and be the example God called him to be.
Paul wrote letters to Timothy, giving him advice on how to live a Godly life by being devoted to reading scripture, teaching, and not neglecting the gift he was given by God. Paul was an example to believers in his speech, in his conduct, in his love, in his faith and in purity. Paul was the example for Timothy before Timothy was commanded to be the example for other believers.
As the church, it is important to be involved in the lives of young adults and be the examples God has called His people to be.
Like Timothy, young adults need prayer, guidance, community, and encouragement. They need to be intentionally discipled, the way that Paul poured into Timothy.
There is no better place to get that than from the Body of Christ.
